Phillip Toladano

‘Days with my father’ is a journal.
A record of our relationship, and the time we spent over the last three years. 2006-2009

This collection of work is photographs Phillip Tolendano took over a few years of his father. He talks about how after his mother sadly passed away suddenly in 2006, he became a lot more aware of the mental issues his father had. He says how he doesn't have dementia, but has no short term memory and talks about how this affects both their lives.

He talks about how he is confused, and dazed. He is shocked by his own appearance, and can spend hours in the bathroom. He find scraps of paper around the house, where his father has wrote questions he is thinking, and how he feels lost. He talks about how his father still appreciates the love he receives from Phillip and his wife, and how he is so happy that he has this time to spend with him.

This work is very moving and shows so much emotion. Phillip would be the only person who could do this work, showing the relationship between them both. He shows us his fathers personality and the feelings he has about his life now. He is the only person who understands what his father is thinking, by his expressions and the questions he asks. I think this is a great piece of work, and would bring emotion out in any viewer.
